Lib Dem Blog of the Year Awards
Come and see the inaugural Liberal Democrat bloggers awards being presented and hear from some of the top Lib Dem bloggers, including Lynne Featherstone MP.
21.00-23.00,

There’s a Bloggers’ Reception on the Conference Agenda.  Now, isn’t that posh.   It’s a little more formal than the whole meet-in-a-pub idea, but hey.

NB, when I say pub, I’m thinking of somewhere that sells real beer and where you can hear yourself think. Preferably even somewhere with seats! Does Brighton have that sort of place?

NB2 I think it would be nice to invite the Lib Dem cixen as well. Some of them have not quite grasped what blogging is about, but it would be a good chance for them to learn.

Good idea. Indeed, I was going to suggest it myself but you got here first, which means I’m spared any, like, actual effort. Yay 🙂

I believe the main aim is to give people a chance to put faces to urls and have a bit of a drink.

    Gosh, that’s exciting. I wonder if I even have a conference agenda…

    *Pulls face*

That seems a bit… formal. Oh well, that’ll do.

  6. Tristan says:

Pub would be better in my opinion…

Especially for those of us not actually attending the conference. I might be able to get down for drinks but probably wouldn’t bother for the formal thing.

  7. niles says:

Right. Based on Tristan’s ringing endorsement, and a pub suggestion from the Cixen, I am now going to make a suggestion:

    7pm Tuesday
    Evening Star pub

Tuesday allows some time to elapse following the reception; and if we have our wee bash fairly early we can still crash the Absolutely Equal bash a little later on. The Evening Star looks good from it’s website, is less than a mile from the conference centre along a reasonably sraightforward route. Plus it has home-brewed coffee-beer. What more could you ask?

  8. […] Following an endorsement from Tristan that having a meeting in a pub as well as going to our posh reception would be a good idea, and following a recommendation on a nice pub not too far from the conference centre, and after having a wee peak at the agenda, my suggestion for a second meet is in the box above. […]

More details (and an online form for nominating blogs) are on the Lib Dem website here.

As this is a new thing the party’s doing, I’m very open to suggestions on how to do it better / worse / more often / less often etc.

I think also meeting up in the pub is a great idea; hopefully having a mix of events will encourage more people to get together. (Some people find meeting strangers in a pub off-putting; some people find “formal” conference meetings off-putting; so let’s cater for all sorts).
